MOVEMENT AND DRAWING CLASS

Beginning in the Winter of 2022, I began collaborating with movement artist and yogi Leah Yassky on a curriculum for a class that explores the ways that movement and drawing can intersect, influence one another and contribute to the practice of one another. We have taught a handful of workshops, and a multipart class exploring this intersection. And we hope to continue this exploration ongoing.

We will draw and move.

We will let our motion pathways rest in the air as paintings.

We will find movement in mark making, finding mark making in movement.

We will create embodied, observational drawings.

We will question our vision.

We will trust our vision.

We will ground in internal and external observation.

We will use performance practice to see our marks in action.

Questions:

Why do we draw?
Why do we dance?
Why do we perform?
What can ephemerality and permanence lend to each other?
